Our tour continues with the discovery of Amalfi's historic center as we stroll down Via Lorenzo d'Amalfi, one of the city's most characteristic streets.

This street is one of Amalfi’s main arteries and once served as a strategic link between the coast and the inland areas. Today, walking along Via Lorenzo d'Amalfi means traversing a path steeped in history, rich with historic buildings, shops, and workshops that reflect Amalfi's artisanal and commercial traditions.

In the Middle Ages, Via Lorenzo d’Amalfi was a hub of economic activity, frequented by merchants and noble Amalfitan families. The ancient shops, some still in operation today, offer a glimpse into the past when precious textiles, exotic spices, and handmade paper—highly sought-after goods in Mediterranean markets—were sold here.

During your walk, you can admire the Church of San Francesco, a hidden gem founded in the 13th century by Franciscan monks. Though less imposing than the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea, the church retains a unique charm with frescoes and artworks that bear witness to the city’s deep spirituality.

As you delve deeper into the street, you'll notice narrow, picturesque alleys, many of which lead to small squares or inner courtyards, far from the main tourist flow. The steps and stairways lining the street reveal a city built in harmony with its hilly geography, inviting you to discover hidden corners and surprising views.

Take note of the historic palaces lining Via Lorenzo d’Amalfi. Mostly dating back to the medieval period, they stand as a testament to Amalfi's former glory as a maritime republic. The decorative facades, with their Arab and Norman influences, showcase the cultural melting pot that characterized the city during its golden centuries.

This street is also the perfect place for a culinary break. Stop at one of the local cafés or restaurants to enjoy a coffee or taste the delicacies of the Amalfi Coast, such as the sfogliatella or a delicious lemon-based dessert, a hallmark of the region.

Our tour will continue with more historic wonders of Amalfi, but we encourage you to take your time exploring every corner of Via Lorenzo d'Amalfi, immersing yourself in an atmosphere that tells the story of centuries of history, tradition, and culture.
