Our tour continues with a visit to the Torre dello Ziro, a place steeped in stories of power, mystery, and breathtaking views. Perched on a hill overlooking Amalfi and Atrani, the tower is one of the most fascinating symbols of the Amalfi Coast.

Built between the 15th and 16th centuries as part of the defensive system of the Republic of Amalfi, the Torre dello Ziro was designed to spot enemy ships and warn the population of impending attacks, especially from Saracen pirates. Thanks to its privileged position, the tower offers a unique panoramic view of the sea and surrounding villages, allowing for full control of the coast below.

Beyond its strategic role, the tower is linked to one of the darkest and most tragic stories of local history: the tale of Giovanna d'Aragona, better known as the Duchess of Amalfi. In the 16th century, the duchess, widowed by the Duke of Amalfi, secretly fell in love with her steward. Their relationship resulted in the birth of three illegitimate children, a fact discovered by her brother, Cardinal Luigi d’Aragona. Following the scandal, Giovanna and her children were imprisoned in the Torre dello Ziro, where it is said they were eventually executed. This event has fueled legends of ghosts and mystery that still surround the tower today.

Visiting the Torre dello Ziro also means immersing yourself in unspoiled nature, as the path leading to the tower winds through beautiful holm oak forests, offering spectacular views along the way. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with one of the most stunning vistas on the Amalfi Coast, spanning the sea and the picturesque towns of Amalfi and Atrani.

The Torre dello Ziro is a perfect blend of history and landscape, a place that preserves traces of an intriguing past and provides a rare setting of beauty for those seeking an experience far from the tourist crowds. The peacefulness of the tower and the majesty of the view will leave you with an unforgettable memory of Amalfi.

Our tour continues, but the Torre dello Ziro will undoubtedly remain one of the most memorable stops of your journey.
