From October 7 to 10, 2026
The Gender History Research Center, established at the Department of Human and Social Sciences of the Università di Napoli L'Orientale, organizes the international conference "Economic Violence. Abuse, Exploitation and Gender Inequalities in the Long Term", which will be held in Napoli from October 7 to 10, 2026.
The initiative, promoted in collaboration with ISEM–CNR, the Società Italiana delle Storiche, the Società Napoletana di Storia Patria and the ANR, with the patronage of the Regione Campania and the Comune di Napoli, aims to address in a long-term historical perspective and in dialogue with the present the multiple forms of control, dependence and economic vulnerability that affect gender relations in family, work and institutional contexts.
As highlighted by the most recent international and national reports, the economic dimension represents one of the main factors in the persistence of gender inequalities and constitutes a crucial area for prevention and combating violence policies.
The conference, built on the basis of a call that selected speakers from over sixty international proposals received, aims to relate historical research, interdisciplinary analysis, territorial experiences and public policies, enhancing the role of local institutions in promoting awareness and concrete actions.
